Florida Man With Feeding Tube Tried to Kill His Family to ‘Get Them Up to Heaven,’ Sheriff Says

CRAWFORDVILLE, FLORIDA — A 73-year-old Florida man is behind bars after allegedly stabbing his wife in the neck and threatening to kill his daughter, claiming he wanted to “get them up to heaven” because he was “tired of everyone suffering.”
According to the Wakulla County Sheriff’s Office, Allison Hubert Hatton has been charged with attempted felony murder, aggravated battery on a person over 65, and assault with intent to commit a felony following a violent domestic attack early Saturday morning.
Deputies Respond to Early Morning Stabbing
Deputies responded around 4 a.m. on October 11 to a home on Shadeville Road in Crawfordville, located about 15 miles south of Tallahassee. Hatton’s 42-year-old daughter called 911, reporting that her father had just stabbed her mother, who was “bleeding profusely.”
When officers arrived, they found Hatton disarmed and compliant. His 69-year-old wife was rushed to Tallahassee Memorial Hospital with two puncture wounds and a laceration to her throat.
Daughter Stopped Attack and Was Also Threatened
In a sworn statement, Hatton’s daughter said she woke up to her mother screaming, “Stop! Don’t do it!”
“She ran into the living room and saw her father standing over her mother with a knife,” investigators wrote in the probable cause affidavit.
The daughter managed to wrestle the knife away, but Hatton allegedly went into the kitchen, grabbed another knife, and threatened to kill her too if she interfered again.
‘Tired of Everyone Suffering’ and Hearing God’s Voice
According to investigators, Hatton had been acting erratically in recent days, speaking aloud to God and asking, “If this isn’t right, tell me.”
He had refused to eat for weeks and was receiving nutrition through a feeding tube, though doctors said he had no diagnosed mental illness.
“Hatton’s daughter told detectives he’d been talking to God out loud the last several days,” the sheriff’s office said. “She didn’t realize what he meant until today.”
In a post-Miranda interview, Hatton confessed that he intended to kill his wife, daughter, and their family dog, explaining that he was “trying to get them up to heaven” to end their suffering.
Police Recover Knives and Blood Evidence
Inside the home, deputies found two bloodied knives and evidence of a struggle throughout the living room and kitchen. Investigators said Hatton’s statements and the physical evidence were consistent with an intentional act of violence.
“He was tired of everyone suffering and intended to kill his entire family,” the sheriff’s report stated.
Hatton was arrested without incident and booked into the Wakulla County Jail, where he remains held without bond. His wife is reportedly in stable condition and expected to recover.
The Wakulla County Sheriff’s Office said this case serves as a reminder that mental and emotional distress among elderly individuals can escalate into dangerous situations if left unaddressed.
