Florida Mom Accused of Beating 9-Year-Old Son Daily Before Abandoning Him With Stranger and Leaving Baby Home Alone
MIAMI, FLORIDA — A 29-year-old Florida mother is facing serious charges after allegedly beating her 9-year-old son daily, abandoning him with a stranger she met online, and leaving her two other children — including a 3-month-old baby — alone at home for hours, according to police.
Authorities identified the suspect as Anni Gomez, who was arrested Saturday and charged with child abuse and three counts of child neglect without great bodily harm.
The shocking series of events began when Gomez used WhatsApp to contact a woman in Miami about buying tamales, but the conversation quickly turned into something much darker.
Mother Allegedly Left Son With Stranger
After arriving at the woman’s home on Northwest 7th Street, Gomez allegedly asked if she could leave her children there. The woman, who runs a small childcare business, told her she didn’t know her and could not agree without a discussion first.
But according to the arrest affidavit obtained by Law&Crime, Gomez ignored her refusal — forcing her 9-year-old son out of an Uber and driving away as he stood crying at the stranger’s door.
“The defendant opened the Uber door, took [the son] out of the vehicle,” police wrote. “As soon as [he] began walking towards [the woman], the defendant got back into the Uber and left.”
Moments later, the woman noticed bruises and cuts on the boy’s face and asked what happened. The child at first claimed he had fallen, but eventually broke down and revealed that his mother had been physically abusing him every day.
“She hits me with her phone on the head and beats me daily,” the boy reportedly told officers. “She sometimes scratches me with her nails.”
Police Find Two Other Children Alone
The woman immediately called 911, and when Gomez later returned to retrieve her son, officers were waiting. She was arrested on the spot.
When police went to check her apartment, they discovered two more children — ages 7 and 3 months — left unsupervised. The 7-year-old had reached out to another woman via iPad, saying their mom left and hadn’t come back. That woman later picked them up and cared for them until police arrived.
At the hospital, officers noted the 9-year-old had a black eye, a swollen cheek, clotted blood above his eyebrow, and scratches across his face and body. The child reportedly told investigators he didn’t know why his mother beat him — only that she did so every day.
“He said he wanted his mom arrested for what she was doing to him,” police said.
Mother Denies Allegations
After being read her Miranda rights, Gomez denied all accusations. However, officers documented extensive injuries consistent with the child’s statements.
She was booked into Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, where she remains held pending court proceedings.
A child protection investigator was assigned to evaluate all three children, who are now in protective custody while the Department of Children and Families continues its investigation.
