Janesville Man Indicted for Trafficking North Carolina Teen Across State Lines
JANESVILLE, Wis. — A 29-year-old Janesville man has been indicted by a federal grand jury after allegedly bringing a North Carolina teen to Wisconsin with the intent of engaging in sexual activity.
Federal Charge Announced
The suspect, Adam Gurney, was indicted on Wednesday on one count of transporting a minor across state lines with intent to engage in criminal sexual activity. If convicted, he faces a minimum of 10 years and up to life in federal prison.
Case Began With Tip From North Carolina
Investigators said the case began in early August after the Clay County Sheriff’s Office in North Carolina tipped off Janesville police about Gurney’s contact with the teen.
Officers then began surveillance of Gurney’s home. According to police, they observed Gurney and the teen enter a vehicle parked in his driveway. Gurney was taken into custody without incident, and the teen was released to her father.
Ongoing Legal Proceedings
The indictment elevates the case to the federal court system, where penalties for child exploitation and trafficking crimes are especially severe. Prosecutors have not disclosed additional details about how Gurney initially connected with the victim.
The federal indictment of Adam Gurney highlights the dangers of cross-state trafficking cases and the importance of cooperation between local and federal agencies. For more Wisconsin crime and justice updates, follow ChicagoMusicGuide.com.
