Kentucky Man Who Killed Versailles Boy in Bedroom Released Early From Prison, Family Outraged

VERSAILLES, Kentucky — A man who admitted to killing a 6-year-old boy in his bedroom nearly a decade ago has been released early from prison, prompting anger and disbelief from the victim’s family.
Convicted Killer Freed Early for Good Behavior
Ronald Exantus, 42, was sentenced to 20 years in 2018 for the stabbing death of Logan Tipton. On Wednesday, officials confirmed he was released from a Kentucky prison early for good behavior. Exantus, who was found not guilty of murder by reason of insanity, was convicted for the violent assaults on other family members during the December 2015 attack.
Family Shares Painful Memories
The Tipton family expressed outrage at the decision. Logan’s father, Dean Tipton, told Lex18: “You took a human being’s life, not just a human being, a 6-year-old boy who had yet to even begin to live. Mentally ill or not, you take a life — your life should be at least life in prison without the possibility of parole.”
Logan’s sister, Dakota, recalled the night of the attack, saying she awoke to find Exantus stabbing her brother as he screamed. She also survived being stabbed during the attack before her father tackled Exantus and held him until police arrived.
Mother Calls for Victim Protection
Logan’s mother, Heather Tipton, said the state failed to consider their safety. “Nobody from the state has contacted us to ask us if we thought about needing security, extra protection, anything like that. If you’re a victim and a violent criminal is going to be released, you should be offered some sort of protection, or at least just a phone call,” she said.
Under Supervision Until 2026
Exantus will remain under court supervision until June 2026, and officials say he will serve his mandatory reentry supervision in Florida. Still, the Tipton family insists his release places them and others at risk and denies justice for Logan.
The early release of Ronald Exantus has left the Versailles community shaken, as the Tipton family continues to mourn the young boy’s life and call for stronger protections for victims’ families. For more Kentucky crime and justice updates, follow ChicagoMusicGuide.com.
