Lexington Man Arrested After Fatal Hit-and-Run That Killed Cyclist, Police Say
LEXINGTON, KENTUCKY — A 23-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a fatal hit-and-run crash that left a bicyclist dead in Lexington last month, police confirmed Tuesday.
The Lexington Police Department identified the suspect as Jacob Holland, who was taken into custody on Monday, more than a week after the October 25 collision.
Victim Identified as Lexington Cyclist
According to investigators, the crash occurred on Georgetown Street at Price Road, near Douglass Park, just before midnight on October 25.
Police say the victim, identified as 59-year-old Jose Luis Hernandez Sosa of Lexington, was struck by a vehicle that fled the scene. Responding officers and emergency personnel found the man critically injured; he was later pronounced dead at the scene.
Charges Filed Against the Suspect
Authorities said Jacob Holland faces two felony charges:
- Leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death or serious physical injury
- Tampering with physical evidence
He was booked into the Fayette County Detention Center, where he remains in custody pending arraignment.
Police have not yet released details about how investigators connected Holland to the crash but confirmed that the vehicle involved has been located and processed for evidence.
Ongoing Investigation
The Lexington Police Collision Reconstruction Unit continues to investigate the incident. Officers are reviewing traffic camera footage and witness statements to determine the exact sequence of events leading up to the crash.
Authorities have not yet said whether impairment or speed played a role.
