Lexington Police Arrest Man After Shots Fired, Armed Carjacking, and Hit-and-Run Crash Across Multiple Locations, Officials Say

LEXINGTON, KENTUCKY — A 34-year-old man has been arrested after a string of violent incidents Tuesday night that began with shots fired on the city’s north side and ended with a hit-and-run crash and a carjacking, according to the Lexington Police Department. Officers say the series of crimes unfolded over roughly 30 minutes across multiple locations.

Shots Fired Report on Jennifer Road Sparks Investigation

The investigation began around 7:15 p.m. when officers were dispatched to the 1700 block of Jennifer Road for reports of gunfire. Before police arrived, the vehicles involved had already left the area. Officers began searching for the vehicles based on witness statements and early surveillance review.

Officials have not released details about whether any injuries resulted from the initial gunfire.

Armed Carjacking Occurs Minutes Later on West New Circle Road

Roughly 30 minutes later, officers responded to a second scene in the 100 block of West New Circle Road for a reported robbery. According to police, one of the vehicles from the earlier shots-fired call pulled into a business parking lot, where the suspect allegedly stole another vehicle at gunpoint.

Investigators say the suspect quickly fled the area in the newly stolen vehicle.

Hit-and-Run Crash Near North Broadway; Real-Time Intelligence Center Tracks Vehicle

Police say the suspect then drove toward downtown Lexington and became involved in a hit-and-run crash near North Broadway and Fourth Street. The suspect did not remain at the scene, prompting officers to expand the search.

With the help of the department’s Real-Time Intelligence Center, detectives monitored traffic cameras and data systems to locate the stolen vehicle. Officers ultimately found the suspect at a local hospital, where he was taken into custody without incident.

Suspect Identified as Michael Peak; Facing Multiple Felony Charges

The suspect has been identified as Michael Peak, 34. He has been charged with:

  • Carjacking
  • First-degree wanton endangerment
  • Tampering with physical evidence
  • Leaving the scene of an accident / failure to render aid

Peak is currently booked at the Fayette County Detention Center. Detectives continue to investigate the shots-fired incident that initiated the sequence of events and have not ruled out additional charges.
