Louisville Police Charge 36-Year-Old Man in October Shooting That Injured Victim in Russell Neighborhood

LOUISVILLE, KENTUCKY — A 36-year-old Louisville man has been arrested and charged in connection with an October shooting in the city’s Russell neighborhood, according to police. The incident left another man injured and prompted a monthlong investigation by the Louisville Metro Police Department.

Shooting Reported on West Chestnut Street Late on Oct. 21

Officers responded to the 2600 block of West Chestnut Street around 9:45 p.m. on Oct. 21 after receiving a report of gunfire. When police arrived, they found a 31-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound to his right thigh.

The victim was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Detectives began interviewing witnesses and gathering evidence to identify the shooter.

Suspect Identified as Jarrett Dennis, Facing Assault Charge

Police say the investigation led them to Jarrett Dennis, 36, who is accused of shooting the victim during the confrontation. According to the arrest citation, Dennis fired at the man, striking him in the leg.

Dennis has been charged with second-degree assault and taken into custody. Police have not provided additional details about the motive or what led to the shooting.

Court Appearance Scheduled as Investigation Continues

Dennis is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday at 9 a.m. Detectives say the case remains open as they continue interviewing witnesses and reviewing evidence from the scene.
