Maryland Father Charged With Murder After 4-Month-Old Daughter Found Dead With Skull Fractures, Authorities Say
WALDORF, MARYLAND — A 28-year-old father has been arrested and charged with multiple counts of murder and child abuse after authorities say he brutally killed his 4-month-old daughter while caring for her and two other children. Jordan Nathaniel Savoy is being held without bond following a series of charges that include first-degree murder, second-degree murder, child abuse resulting in death, and assault.
Deputies responded to a home on Barksdale Avenue at around 6:45 p.m. on Nov. 23 after receiving a report that an infant was not breathing. According to the Charles County Sheriff’s Office, first responders attempted lifesaving measures and transported the baby to Charles Regional Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.
Mother Was at Work When Baby Became “Limp,” Police Say
Court documents reveal that Savoy was home with three young children — ages 3, 2, and the infant — while the mother was at work. At around 5:30 p.m., Savoy called the mother to say that something seemed wrong with the baby, telling her the infant was awake but “limp.” Minutes later, he called again to say her condition had worsened.
During a video call, the mother said the baby appeared pale and unresponsive. She instructed Savoy to call 911 and rushed home. When she arrived, Savoy was reportedly holding the unresponsive infant in the air, prompting the mother to take the child, place her on the floor, and begin CPR until medics arrived.
Doctors Found Skull Fractures and Severe Eye Injuries
At the hospital, doctors determined the infant had suffered skull fractures, a broken clavicle, and serious eye injuries, including retinal hemorrhaging. Investigators say the extent of the injuries was consistent with significant trauma.
During the ambulance ride, Savoy and the mother followed in a friend’s car. According to police, Savoy told the mother that doctors were likely to find bruising on the baby’s shoulders — and asked her not to let police “take him to prison.”
Mother Says Father Previously Complained About Baby Crying
The mother told investigators she had reservations about leaving Savoy alone with the infant, explaining that he became easily frustrated when the baby cried. She also reported a previous incident in which she returned home to find bruising on the infant’s hip. Savoy claimed the child had rolled off the bed.
She remained concerned the following day when the infant vomited repeatedly, though the baby later acted normally.
Father Declines to Speak With Police
Savoy refused to speak with investigators after his arrest, according to authorities. He is being held without bond as the investigation continues. A court date has not yet been announced.
The Charles County Sheriff’s Office is continuing to gather information surrounding the infant’s death.
