GAUTIER, MISSISSIPPI — A 36-year-old Mississippi mother has been arrested after her two young sons drowned in a backyard swimming pool, authorities said. Police say additional charges may follow as the investigation continues.

Amber Goldman was taken into custody by the Gautier Police Department following the deaths of her 2-year-old and 5-year-old boys at their home on 3 Oaks Drive.

Tragic Discovery in Backyard Pool

According to police, officers were dispatched around 5:30 p.m. Monday after receiving a distress call about two unresponsive children.

When emergency crews arrived, they found both boys lying near the edge of the pool in the backyard. First responders immediately began CPR and lifesaving efforts, but both children were later pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.

Deputy Coroner James Prisock confirmed that the cause of death was drowning, though investigators have not released further details about the circumstances surrounding how the children entered the pool.

While investigating the scene, police arrested Amber Goldman on possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. Authorities did not disclose the type of drug involved or how it may have factored into the tragedy.

Police say additional charges are pending as investigators work to determine whether neglect or impairment played a role in the drownings.
