Missouri Delivery Driver Shot Dead in Road Rage Attack While Working With His Wife, 20-Year-Old Suspect Charged
KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI — A 57-year-old man delivering groceries with his wife was shot in the head and killed during a road rage incident in Kansas City, and authorities say the 20-year-old gunman later confessed, admitting, “I killed a man that did not deserve it.”
According to the Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office, Laken Logan was arrested and charged with second-degree murder, armed criminal action, and unlawful use of a weapon after allegedly opening fire on Cleveland Wright during an encounter on September 23.
Police said Wright and his wife were completing grocery deliveries when a confrontation unfolded near the intersection of NE Chouteau Trafficway and Gardner Avenue.
Suspect Admitted to Shooting After Losing His Temper
Court documents reveal Logan was driving his 2025 Chevrolet Trax with a co-worker when Wright’s vehicle allegedly passed him “too closely” at a red light. The co-worker told police Logan became enraged, followed Wright’s car, and pulled up alongside the couple while holding a pistol.
“Who you trying to hit, boy?!” Logan allegedly shouted, before firing multiple shots toward Wright’s car.
Wright’s wife told police her husband reached for what she believed was his legally owned handgun, but investigators later confirmed he never fired. One bullet struck Wright in the head, killing him instantly as the car crashed into the median.
Shooter Fled Scene, Then Changed His Story Multiple Times
After the shooting, Logan reportedly drove away, returned to his job, and finished his shift as if nothing happened, according to the probable cause statement.
Police later found him through surveillance footage and took him into custody on October 19.
When questioned, Logan allegedly gave conflicting accounts of what happened to the murder weapon — first saying he threw it into the Missouri River, then claiming he sold it to multiple unidentified men.
Officers eventually determined the weapon was a Taurus G3 9mm handgun.
Community Mourns ‘Greatest Pawpaw’ as Family Demands Justice
Wright’s family described him as a devoted husband, grandfather, and community man who worked hard to support his loved ones.
One family member wrote on Facebook after Logan’s arrest:
“Justice being served for the greatest pawpaw to ever do it. We love and miss you.”
Prosecutors said Logan’s bond was set at $750,000, and his first court appearance is scheduled for Monday morning in Jackson County Circuit Court.
The tragedy has sparked renewed debate over road rage and gun violence across Missouri, as police urge drivers to de-escalate and avoid confrontations on the road. For updates on crime and community safety in the Midwest, visit ChicagoMusicGuide.com.
