Paducah I-24 Crash Shuts Down Highway Near 9-Mile Marker Before Reopening, Drivers Face Major Delays

MCCRACKEN COUNTY, KENTUCKY — Authorities in western Kentucky responded to a traffic collision on Interstate 24 Saturday morning that temporarily shut down westbound lanes and caused major delays near Paducah, according to the McCracken County Sheriff’s Department.

Deputies said the crash occurred near the 9-mile marker westbound around 11:55 a.m. on October 25. Emergency crews quickly arrived on scene to manage the situation and redirect vehicles while the highway remained closed for cleanup and investigation.

Traffic Back Open, but Drivers Urged to Stay Cautious

By early afternoon, officials confirmed the roadway had fully reopened to traffic. However, drivers were still urged to exercise caution and expect residual slowdowns in the area.

“Motorists should expect delays and use alternate routes while first responders are on scene,” the sheriff’s office said during the closure.

The McCracken County Sheriff’s Department did not immediately release details about potential injuries or the number of vehicles involved.

Crash Under Investigation

Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the collision, which briefly impacted travel between Paducah and surrounding communities. The area near Interstate 24 westbound has seen multiple weather-related and high-speed collisions this month, prompting renewed safety reminders for local motorists.

Officials are encouraging drivers to remain alert, avoid distractions, and maintain safe distances, particularly during busy weekend travel periods.
