Kentucky Father Pleads Not Guilty to Allegedly Helping Son Hide Bodies in Lexington Teen Double Murder
LEXINGTON, KENTUCKY — A 47-year-old father accused of helping his teenage son conceal evidence after the murder of two Lexington teens pleaded not guilty during his arraignment Friday, according to court documents.
Jesus Reyes-Rodriguez faces a tampering with evidence charge in connection with the May killings of 15-year-old Aoun Basboos and 16-year-old Ali Naqvi. Prosecutors say his son, 18-year-old Jesus Reyes-Ocampo, fatally shot the two victims before allegedly hiding their bodies.
Reyes-Rodriguez was briefly released in August, when the Commonwealth failed to indict him before the deadline, but has since been formally charged and remains free pending trial, while his son is still in custody on murder charges.
Detectives Say Father Tried to Destroy Key Evidence
During a prior hearing, Lexington police detectives detailed how Reyes-Rodriguez allegedly helped clean up and alter a vehicle connected to the murders at his business in northern Fayette County.
Detective Greg George testified that officers discovered clear attempts to eliminate forensic evidence from the car:
“There were attempts to clean blood out of the vehicle and the rear seat had been removed,” George said. “There was also a firepit in the back of the business where it was possible a car seat from the vehicle had been burned.”
Police also recovered seat belt clips that had been removed and thrown into the pit, suggesting an effort to destroy physical evidence after the killings.
One Victim Still Missing Months Later
While police recovered the body of 16-year-old Ali Naqvi, investigators said 15-year-old Aoun Basboos remains missing, despite ongoing search efforts across Fayette and surrounding counties.
Authorities believe the father became involved after the shootings in an attempt to help his son cover up the crimes.
Both defendants — father and son — are scheduled to return to court on November 20 for a pretrial conference.
The case has shaken the Lexington community, with police urging anyone with information about Basboos’ whereabouts to contact the Lexington Police Department or submit anonymous tips through Bluegrass Crime Stoppers.
