NEW ALBANY, INDIANA — A man is dead after an early-morning shooting inside a southern Indiana apartment, where police say the incident involved a mother and her two adult sons. Deputies Respond to Early-Morning Shooting on Mel Smith Road

The Floyd County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that deputies responded to an apartment on Mel Smith Road around 5:39 a.m. Saturday following reports of a shooting. The location sits in an unincorporated area just outside New Albany.

When deputies arrived, they learned that the gunfire had occurred inside the apartment before officers reached the scene. Emergency medical responders transported one of the adult men to a nearby hospital.

Police stated:

“One of the men was shot and he was taken to the hospital, where he later died.”
