Tragic Wisconsin UTV Crash: Child Loses Life, Another Seriously Hurt After Vehicle Flips Into Ditch
FARMINGTON, WISCONSIN – Authorities say a child was killed and another seriously injured in a utility terrain vehicle (UTV) crash in western Wisconsin over the weekend.
Crash Happened on 250th Street
According to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a crash just after 7 p.m. Saturday on 250th Street, south of 20th Avenue in the Town of Farmington.
Investigators said the UTV was traveling southbound when the driver lost control and the vehicle rolled into a west ditch.
Both the driver and passenger, identified only as juveniles, were not wearing helmets or seatbelts at the time of the crash, officials confirmed.
One Child Airlifted, Another Hospitalized
The passenger was airlifted to Regions Hospital in Saint Paul, Minnesota, where they later died from their injuries, according to the sheriff’s office.
The driver was transported by private vehicle to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Authorities said weather and road conditions were not believed to be factors in the crash, but the cause remains under investigation.
“This is a heartbreaking reminder of the importance of proper safety equipment when operating off-road vehicles,” a Polk County deputy said in a statement.
Ongoing Investigation
Deputies continue to gather evidence and interview witnesses to determine what caused the rollover.
The names and ages of the juveniles involved have not been released pending family notification.
