Trio Accused of Stealing $150,000 in Goods from Wisconsin and Minnesota Stores Arrested in Eau Claire
EAU CLAIRE, WISCONSIN — Police say three Minneapolis residents were arrested after investigators linked them to a multi-state retail theft ring that allegedly stole more than $150,000 in merchandise from stores across Wisconsin and Minnesota.
According to the Eau Claire Police Department (ECPD), the break in the case came when Scheels employees recognized one of the suspects accused of stealing a $3,500 fish finder earlier this month. The man returned to the store on Nov. 1, this time accompanied by two other people.
Theft Spree Spanned Multiple States
While officers were still collecting information at Oakwood Mall, police received another report of a theft at Ulta Beauty, where staff provided a suspect description matching the same trio.
Authorities identified the suspects as:
- Kenneth Machen, 21
- Roberta Howard, 19
- Leslie Robinson, 64
All three are residents of Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Police said the group was connected to numerous thefts at retail chains throughout both states, targeting electronics, beauty products, and high-value merchandise. Investigators estimate the total value of the stolen items exceeds $150,000.
Felony Charges Filed in Eau Claire
In Eau Claire County, Machen faces felony retail theft charges involving stolen goods valued between $500 and $5,000. Robinson faces retail theft by concealment and obstructing an officer, both enhanced due to prior convictions.
Howard received a civil citation for retail theft, which police say reflects her smaller role in the incident compared to the others.
Authorities said more charges are expected as the investigation expands into other jurisdictions.
Alert Staff Credited With Cracking Case
Police credited quick-thinking employees at both Scheels and Ulta for recognizing the suspects and promptly alerting law enforcement.
“This case is a great example of how strong partnerships between retailers and local police can help stop organized theft rings,” the ECPD said in a statement.
All three suspects are currently being held pending further proceedings.
