34-Year-Old Floyd County Woman Found Dead From Gunshot Wound, Kentucky State Police Investigating

MCDOWELL, KENTUCKY — The Kentucky State Police (KSP) have launched a death investigation after a 34-year-old woman was found dead from a gunshot wound in Floyd County on Thursday, October 23.

Authorities identified the victim as Jill Howell of Prestonsburg, whose body was discovered inside a residence on East Back Street in the McDowell community after troopers received a call about an unresponsive woman.

KSP Investigating Possible Homicide

Investigators from KSP Pikeville Post responded to the scene, where preliminary findings indicated that Howell died from a fatal gunshot wound.

The Floyd County Coroner’s Office pronounced her dead at the scene, and her body was transported to the Kentucky State Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy to determine the official cause and manner of death.

While officials have not released further details about potential suspects or motives, the case remains an active and ongoing investigation.

Community Shaken as Investigation Continues
