New York Woman Gets 7 Years for Stabbing Father During Argument Over ‘Clogged Toilet,’ Then Smoking Cigarette While He Bled Inside
OTISVILLE, NEW YORK — A 37-year-old woman has been sentenced to seven years in state prison for stabbing her father multiple times in the chest during an argument over a clogged toilet, then smoking a cigarette outside while telling police her father was “probably dying inside.”
According to the Orange County District Attorney’s Office, Kimberly Mann pleaded guilty to first-degree assault as part of a plea deal, admitting that she intentionally caused serious physical injury to her father using a knife.
Argument Over Toilet Turns Violent
The incident occurred on August 14, 2024, at the family’s home in Otisville, about 75 miles northwest of New York City.
Authorities said Mann began arguing with her mother about a backed-up toilet when her father tried to step between them. That’s when Mann pulled a knife hidden in her shirt and stabbed him several times in the chest.
Prosecutors said the victim suffered collapsed lungs, severe blood loss, and multiple stab wounds that nearly cost him his life.
‘He’s Probably Dying Inside,’ She Told Police
When officers from the Mount Hope Police Department arrived, they found Mann calmly sitting outside the home, smoking a cigarette.
She allegedly told them, “My father is probably dying inside.”
Emergency responders rushed the victim to a nearby hospital, where doctors were able to save his life after performing emergency procedures.
Judge Condemns ‘Terrifyingly Violent’ Attack
Orange County District Attorney David M. Hoovler called the case “a horrifying example of domestic violence turned deadly.”
“Domestic violence is insidious and, as seen in this case, can be terrifyingly violent,” Hoovler said. “While the defendant’s guilty plea spared the family further trauma, the sentence is necessary to underscore the seriousness of her actions.”
Mann was sentenced to seven years in prison followed by five years of supervised release. She remains in custody at the Orange County Jail, according to Times Union.
