Wauconda Traffic Stop Leads to Arrest in Domestic Violence and Heroin Case

WAUCONDA, Ill. — A 42-year-old man was arrested after a routine traffic stop in Wauconda led police to uncover alleged domestic violence, narcotics, and a weapon, according to the Wauconda Police Department.
Suspicious Behavior Before the Stop
Police say the incident began around 9 p.m. Saturday when officers conducting surveillance near the Jewel grocery store noticed a man and woman inside a vehicle acting suspiciously. Officers reported that the female passenger appeared fearful, while the male driver was behaving erratically.
The vehicle was also observed without headlights and missing a front license plate, prompting officers to initiate a traffic stop.
Investigation and Discovery
The driver, identified as Frank R. Saporito, of Romeoville, allegedly became confrontational and uncooperative during the stop. Police said the female passenger showed visible injuries and told officers she had been held against her will.
During the investigation, officers uncovered statements and evidence of domestic violence. K9 Skye alerted to narcotics inside the vehicle, leading to a search. Authorities recovered a machete, allegedly used to threaten the woman, as well as a locked safe. After obtaining a warrant, investigators said they found suspected heroin inside the safe.
Charges and Victim Support
Saporito was arrested and charged with:
- Aggravated unlawful restraint
- Unlawful use of a weapon by a felon
- Two counts of domestic battery
- Improper display of registration
Additional charges related to possession of a controlled substance are expected once laboratory analysis of the narcotics is complete.
Police confirmed the female victim was provided with support services following the incident.
