Fort Payne Bank Robbery Suspect Captured in Kentucky

FORT PAYNE, ALABAMA – A man accused of robbing a PNC Bank in downtown Fort Payne is now in custody after being captured in Kentucky less than 24 hours after the crime.

The incident occurred around 9:20 a.m. Tuesday at the PNC branch on 200 Gault Avenue North. According to police, the suspect entered the bank armed with a handgun and handed a note to the teller demanding money.
The suspect reportedly made off with approximately $3,000 before fleeing the scene.
Arrest Across State Lines
On Wednesday afternoon, the Fort Payne Police Department (FPD) confirmed that the suspect had been arrested in Kentucky. He was found still driving the vehicle that police had previously released in surveillance footage.
Assistant Chief Lee Traylor credited both traditional investigative work and modern tracking technology for the quick arrest.
“Thanks to a mixture of old-fashioned police work and modern technology, our investigators and federal partners were able to track down the suspect in yesterday’s bank robbery,” Traylor said. “We’re proud to announce that the subject in question was taken into custody this afternoon.”
Details Pending Release
Authorities have not yet identified the suspect publicly. Police said further information, including the man’s identity, is expected to be released on Thursday.
The arrest highlights the strong coordination between local law enforcement and federal partners in tracking the suspect across state lines.
