Clarinda, Iowa Under Boil Advisory as Officials Test Cloudy Water

CLARINDA, IOWA – Residents of Clarinda and nearby rural communities remain under a boil water advisory as officials continue testing samples following reports of cloudy water.

Advisory Details

The Page County Emergency Management team announced the advisory on Wednesday, clarifying that while some concerns were raised about possible toxins, no confirmation of microcystin has been found. Testing is still underway, and the advisory remains in place until all results are finalized.

Officials encouraged residents to monitor updates directly from the City of Clarinda or the Southwest Regional Water District (SRWD) for the most reliable information.

First Samples Pass, But Precautions Remain

In a social media update, SRWD reported that the first set of samples had passed testing, but stressed that precautions must remain in effect until more results are confirmed.

During the advisory, residents are urged to:

  • Use bottled water or boiled tap water (cooled) for drinking and making ice
  • Boil water before using it for cooking or food preparation
  • Brush teeth with bottled or boiled water
  • Use boiled or bottled water for pets

Officials added that it is safe to bathe, shower, wash hands, and do laundry, provided residents avoid swallowing the water.

Next Steps for the Community

The situation has caused some confusion after conflicting information appeared on social media. Page County officials emphasized following CDC and Iowa Department of Natural Resources guidelines on boil advisories until the all-clear is issued.

For now, residents are advised to remain cautious and use boiled or bottled water for any consumption-related purposes.

As Clarinda waits for final test results, local officials continue working to ensure safe water for the community. For updates on public safety and community news across the Midwest, follow ChicagoMusicGuide.com.
