Milwaukee Teen Suspect in Deadly Police Chase Crash Had Been Released From Indiana Jail a Week Earlier

MILWAUKEE, Wis. — The teenager accused of causing a deadly police chase crash in Milwaukee that killed three family members had been released from an Indiana jail just one week earlier, according to newly obtained court records.

Crash That Killed Three Family Members

The crash happened around 9:37 p.m. on September 16, when a white Dodge Journey ran a red light at 35th and Vliet Streets and slammed into a Mazda 6.

The victims, all inside the Mazda, were identified by family as 50-year-old Pler Moo, 15-year-old Kar Lah Kri Moo, and 21-year-old Moo Nay Taw. Two other family members were injured.

Police Chase Details

According to a search warrant affidavit, Milwaukee officers spotted the Dodge Journey speeding, passing vehicles in a bike lane, and driving without license plates.

When police attempted a stop, the driver fled southbound on 36th Street, reaching speeds over 70 mph in a 25 mph zone. The vehicle ran two stop signs, drove into oncoming traffic, and blew through multiple red lights before the fatal collision.

Investigators said the Dodge Journey had been reported stolen out of Elkhart, Indiana.

Suspect Released Days Before Crash

Court documents identified the driver as 19-year-old Trevon Loston, who had recently been arrested in Indiana after a separate chase on August 24.

At that time, officers said Loston was driving another stolen vehicle from Milwaukee and led police on a pursuit before abandoning it. He was arrested and booked into the Elkhart County Jail.

Loston was given a $5,000 surety bond, requiring only 10% to secure release, and was ordered not to commit new offenses. He was released on September 9 — just one week before the fatal Milwaukee crash.

Weapons Found in Both Cases

In both incidents, investigators found a firearm with an extended magazine inside the vehicles. Police confirmed those guns have since been taken off the street.

Loston is currently being held in the Milwaukee County Jail, though he has not yet been formally charged in connection with the crash.

The deaths of three innocent family members have renewed scrutiny over bond release policies and the dangers posed by repeat offenders. For more updates on Wisconsin crime and justice, follow ChicagoMusicGuide.com.
