Pennsylvania Teen ‘Surprised’ When Gun Went Off, Killing Her Ex-Boyfriend — Then She Left Him to Die Alone, Police Say

ABINGTON TOWNSHIP, PENNSYLVANIA — A 15-year-old girl is facing murder and manslaughter charges after police say she accidentally shot her ex-boyfriend in the head with a stolen “cowboy-style” revolver, then left him dying alone on his bedroom floor.

Authorities say Precious Hamilton of Pennsylvania is being charged as an adult in the death of 17-year-old Baseem “Seyven” Baker, who was found dead inside his 11th-floor apartment on Monday evening.

Police: Teen Shot Ex-Boyfriend, Then Walked Away

According to the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office, officers responded to an unresponsive person call around 5 p.m. at an apartment building on Old York Road.

When officers arrived, they discovered Baker dead from a single gunshot wound to the head, lying beside his bed.

Investigators say Hamilton told police she and Baker had been lying together on the bed when she grabbed the gun “to play around.” She claimed she was “surprised” when it went off, instantly striking him in the head and knocking him to the floor.

“Precious stated she produced the firearm in rapid fashion and was surprised when the revolver discharged, instantly striking Baseem and rendering him unresponsive,” investigators wrote in their report.

Rather than call for help, Hamilton panicked, left the apartment, and called her mother to pick her up, police said.

Mother Discovered Her Son’s Body Hours Later

Baker’s mother told police she had left her son and Hamilton alone around 2:30 p.m. to run errands. When she returned home a few hours later, she noticed the apartment door was unlocked — unusual for her son.

After completing some schoolwork, she went to check on him and found him unresponsive on the bedroom floor, prosecutors said.

She immediately called 911, but it was too late to save him.

Gun Was Stolen Weeks Before the Shooting

Detectives say Hamilton admitted to stealing the gun two months earlier, describing it as a “cowboy-style” revolver she kept in her bag.

Baker’s cousin told police that on the night before the shooting, Hamilton had shown off the loaded firearm and even talked about firing it out of his bedroom window, though Baker convinced her not to.

Investigators later found photos and videos of Hamilton posing with the revolver on Baker’s iPad.

The murder weapon has not yet been recovered.

Charged as an Adult

Hamilton now faces multiple felony charges, including:

  • Third-degree murder
  • Involuntary manslaughter
  • Possession of a firearm by a minor
  • Carrying a firearm without a license

District Attorney Kevin Steele said the decision to charge Hamilton as an adult reflects the severity of her actions and her failure to call for help.

“A 17-year-old boy is dead because a 15-year-old who never should have had a gun played with it and pulled the trigger,” Steele said.
