SWAT Assists in Arrest of 19-Year-Old on Child Endangerment and Drug Trafficking Charges in Union, Kentucky

UNION, KENTUCKY — A 19-year-old man from Union was arrested after Boone County Sheriff’s deputies and SWAT officers executed a search warrant at his home and discovered drugs, loaded firearms, and THC products within reach of an infant, officials confirmed.

Deputies with the Boone County Crime Suppression Unit and SWAT team carried out the raid around 3:30 p.m. on Nov. 11 at a residence on Station Lane, near the Triple Crown neighborhood. The arrest was made without incident, according to a department spokesperson.

Drugs and Guns Found Within Reach of Infant

Authorities say Aden Velasquez, 19, was charged with child endangerment and drug trafficking after investigators found multiple firearms and marijuana products in areas easily accessible to his infant child.

Inside Velasquez’s bedroom, where he lived with his girlfriend and their baby, deputies reportedly found:

  • Seven firearms in total, including three long guns and four handguns
  • Two loaded handguns sitting on a desk
  • An “unsecured” gun safe containing additional weapons
  • 33 THC cartridges, 150 grams of marijuana, THC gummies and wax, a digital scale, and empty baggies for packaging

According to court documents, marijuana packages and edibles were scattered on the floor, within the baby’s reach.

Boone County Deputies Secure Scene

Deputies remained on the property for several hours processing evidence. Though early reports suggested police activity in the Triple Crown neighborhood, dispatch later confirmed the search warrant was executed nearby.

The Boone County Sheriff’s Office noted that this marks the second major SWAT operation in the Union area in recent months. In June, officers responded to a standoff with a man accused of shooting at landscapers and police in the same vicinity.

Velasquez was booked into the Boone County Detention Center. His charges include child endangerment, possession of drug paraphernalia, and trafficking in marijuana and THC products.
