Missing Kentucky Teen Found Safe After Overnight Search in Hazard, Police Announce

HAZARD, KENTUCKY — A missing juvenile reported last seen late Thursday night in the Lothair section of Hazard has been found safe, according to the Hazard Police Department. Authorities confirmed that Herbert Gibson, who was reported missing after 11 p.m. on Nov. 28, was located and is no longer considered at risk.

Police did not immediately release details about where or how he was found but confirmed that he is safe and reunited with family.

Teen Was Last Seen Wearing Distinctive Clothing, Police Say

Before he was found, Hazard police issued a public alert describing Gibson’s clothing at the time he went missing. According to the department, he was last seen wearing:

  • A black-and-red Caterpillar (“CAT”) brand hat
  • A dark hoodie
  • Dark khaki pants
  • Cowboy boots

Authorities asked residents in the Lothair area and surrounding neighborhoods to remain vigilant while officers searched for the teen.

Hazard Police thanked the community for spreading information quickly, which they say played an important role in ensuring the boy’s safe recovery. The department also reminded residents that tips — even small ones — can be critical in missing-person cases.
