Emergency Crews Extinguish Boat Fire on Fox Lake in Antioch

ANTIOCH, ILLINOIS – A dramatic boat fire on Fox Lake in Antioch drew a swift response from emergency crews Tuesday afternoon. Officials confirmed that no injuries were reported, though the vessel was declared a total loss.
Fire Erupts Offshore
The Antioch Fire Department said firefighters were called just after 1:30 p.m. and arrived to find a boat about 200 yards offshore fully engulfed in flames. Battalion Chief Ryan Keefe said crews worked for about an hour to bring the blaze under control, according to WGN’s report on the incident.
SkyCam9 aerial video showed thick black smoke pouring from the burning vessel as firefighters battled the fire near Bolton Road. Witnesses reported that at least one person jumped into the water for safety, though no injuries have been confirmed.
Recently Repaired Boat
A spokesperson from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office said the fire began in the engine compartment of a recently repaired boat. Investigators are still working to determine what caused the malfunction that led to the blaze.
By the time firefighters extinguished the fire, the boat was deemed unsalvageable.
Investigation Underway
The cause of the fire is under joint investigation by the Antioch Fire Department, the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, and Illinois Conservation Police, who are working to determine whether mechanical failure or other factors played a role.
While no one was injured, officials emphasized the importance of boat safety and regular maintenance checks, especially after engine repairs. For more updates on community news and public safety incidents across Illinois, follow ChicagoMusicGuide.com.
