Freezing Fog and Slick Roads Hit Cincinnati as Ohio–Kentucky Region Faces Light Snow Into the Weekend

CINCINNATI, OHIO — A silvery layer of freezing fog is clinging to rooftops, bridges, and roadways across Cincinnati this morning, creating ice-glazed pavement and catching early commuters off guard. Patchy fog combined with light snow has turned untreated roads and ramps slick throughout southwest Ohio and northern Kentucky.

Freezing Fog Drops Visibility and Creates Hazardous Travel Conditions

The National Weather Service in Wilmington reports that minor snow accumulations under a half inch, along with patchy freezing fog, are reducing visibility below a quarter mile in some areas. Hazardous travel conditions are developing along:

  • I-75
  • I-71
  • I-275
  • Route 50
  • Brent Spence Bridge

Even brief flurries, combined with freezing surfaces, have left some neighborhoods and interstates coated with a thin layer of ice.

Motorists should use low beams, slow down, and allow extra stopping distance while fog persists through mid-morning.

Conditions Improve by Midday, but More Light Snow Possible Into Saturday

As drier air filters into the Ohio Valley, visibility should gradually improve by midday, with temperatures climbing just above freezing. However, the reprieve will be short-lived.

A weak disturbance may bring additional light snow showers late Friday into Saturday. While accumulations will stay minimal, forecasters caution that any wet pavement may refreeze as temperatures fall overnight.

Cold pavement and leftover moisture could produce slick patches during Saturday evening travel.

Cold Weekend Ahead With Another System Approaching Next Week

Temperatures through the weekend will stay in the mid-30s, with partly sunny skies expected Sunday before clouds increase again early next week.

Long-range models suggest that between December 11–17, the Ohio Valley and Great Lakes may see a more active winter storm track, potentially bringing stronger systems just as early holiday travel begins.

Residents across southwest Ohio and northern Kentucky should be prepared for evolving weather conditions over the coming week.
