Meade County Woman Fatally Shot, Suspect Later Found Dead After Hours-Long Search
LOUISVILLE, KENTUCKY — A Meade County woman was found shot to death inside her home Monday afternoon, and the man police named as the suspected shooter was later discovered dead after a lengthy search.
According to the Kentucky State Police (KSP), troopers responded to a residence on Simpson Lane in Ekron around 1 p.m. after receiving a report of a person found unresponsive. When officers arrived, they discovered 55-year-old Mary Crase, of Brandenburg, dead from at least one gunshot wound.
Suspect Identified, Then Found Dead Hours Later
Police quickly identified 45-year-old Scott Hornback, of Irvington, as the primary suspect and launched a search in the Ekron area, focusing near Osbourne Road and Burgundy Lane.
For nearly ten hours, multiple KSP units, local deputies, and emergency crews combed through wooded and residential areas in Meade County. Around 11 p.m., authorities confirmed that Hornback had been found dead.
Investigators have not released details about how or where Hornback died, only saying that there is no ongoing threat to the public.
Investigation Continues
KSP detectives from Post 4 in Elizabethtown are leading the homicide investigation, and the Kentucky State Police Critical Incident Response Team has also been notified.
The relationship between Crase and Hornback has not been publicly confirmed, though early reports indicate they may have known each other. Officials are awaiting autopsy results and gathering forensic evidence from the scene.
