MOD SUN Coming to Chicago’s Bottom Lounge
By Justice Petersen
Pop-punk sensation MOD SUN will be playing at Chicago’s Bottom Lounge on Sunday, March 5.
The alternative singer songwriter is currently on tour supporting his recent studio album “God Save the Teen”, which was released February 3, 2023. MOD SUN’s “God Save the Teen Tour” began on February 19 in Sacramento, CA and on March 5 the emo-pop multi-instrumentalist will be coming to Chicago’s Bottom Lounge.
Over the past ten years, MOD SUN has worked with many big name artists: Avril Lavigne, Machine Gun Kelly and Travis Barker just to name a few. MOD SUN has also collaborated with blackbear, who they recently supported on tour earlier this year. Now MOD SUN is co-headlining with Australian pop-punk group Stand Atlantic.
“God Save the Teen” is an energetic and emotional album that will be loved by fans of both pop and punk music. The record contains strong influences of British punk, modern pop, and Y2K emo music. Sounding like a mix of Avril Lavigne, Sex Pistols (an influence on the album’s title, for sure) and Blink-182, there is something for everyone on MOD SUN’s catchy and fast-paced recent album. Recalling the iconic emo pop-punk music that came out during the 2000’s but containing a refreshing modern vibe, MOD SUN manages to capture an iconic sound in his music that people will recognize and also find extremely fun and relatable.
MOD SUN has said that “God Save the Teen” is their “best body of work”, and they wish to present it to listeners “in the purest way possible”. The release of this album came with quite a bit of anticipation, as MOD SUN released no singles before the album’s release. When the record came out, every song was never heard before.
“I miss when an artist dropping an album felt like an event and it’s been awhile since I’ve felt like an album is one giant piece of work, instead of just a bunch of songs,” says MOD SUN.
One song that perhaps may be familiar to listeners is MOD’s cover of the Goo Goo Doll’s hit song “Iris”; definitely a stellar cover song and fits perfectly on the album.
“God Save the Teen” also features guest artists like Avril Lavigne and Royal & the Serpent. Overall, MOD SUN’s “God Save the Teen” is a fun yet heartfelt body of work, and fans of punk, emo, pop-punk, or pop music in general will adore MOD SUN’s recently released record.
MOD SUN is currently well into his “God Save the Teen Tour”. Beginning the tour in February, MOD will tour throughout the month of March and end the tour on April 2 in Los Angeles.
On March 5, MOD will grace the city of Chicago, playing a sold out show at the West Loop’s Bottom Lounge. It will be great for fans to get to see songs from his recent album performed live, and if listeners weren’t able to make it to the sold out show and see him this time around then they should definitely consider catching him next time he makes his way to the Windy City.
MOD SUN’s fifth studio album, “God Save the Teen” is available on all streaming platforms. Tickets to future MOD SUN shows are available here: https://modsunmusic.com/
