Pennsylvania Driver Opens Fire on Woman Who Simply Passed Him on Highway, Police Say

NEWTOWN TOWNSHIP, PENNSYLVANIA — A Pennsylvania man is behind bars after allegedly shooting a woman who merely passed him on the highway, in what police describe as a shocking and unprovoked act of road rage.

Authorities say Christopher Corbi, 41, fired multiple shots at Kathryn Runner, hitting her in the wrist as she drove by his slow-moving vehicle on the Newtown Bypass Monday evening.

Runner, who miraculously survived, says she still can’t understand why she was targeted.

“I had no road rage,” she told ABC 6 Philadelphia (WPVI). “I didn’t honk, I didn’t flip him off — nothing. A lot of cars passed him. What made him choose me?”

Unprovoked Shooting on the Bypass

According to Newtown Township Police, officers responded around 6:30 p.m. to reports of shots fired near Woodbourne Road. They arrived to find Runner bleeding from a gunshot wound to her left wrist.

She told investigators that she was traveling behind several vehicles when she attempted to pass Corbi’s car, which was driving well below the speed limit.

“As I went around, I saw something shiny out of the corner of my eye,” Runner recalled. “I looked over and saw the barrel of a gun — then my window shattered, and I saw the hole.”

Moments later, Runner called 911, giving dispatchers a description of Corbi’s car and even following at a safe distance to record his license plate. But when Corbi realized she was trailing him, police say he made a sudden turn and fired two more shots in her direction — one of which struck her wrist.

Suspect Caught Within Minutes

Using the vehicle information Runner provided, officers quickly tracked down Corbi and arrested him minutes later. Police say they also recovered a handgun from his vehicle.

Corbi now faces multiple charges, including:

  • Attempted murder
  • Aggravated assault
  • Propulsion of missiles into an occupied vehicle

He is being held without bond at the Bucks County Jail and is due back in court on November 6.

Victim ‘Thankful to Be Alive’

Runner was treated at a local hospital, where doctors stitched her wound and released her the same night.

“I definitely was screaming at the 911 operator that he’s shooting at me,” she told reporters. “I’m just thankful to be alive.”

Authorities have not yet determined what provoked Corbi to open fire, though police say there was no evidence of a confrontation before the attack.
