Chaos at Camp Randall: 28 Fans Ejected and 16 Arrested During Wisconsin’s Brutal 37–0 Loss to Iowa
MADISON, WISCONSIN – What was supposed to be a rivalry weekend turned chaotic at Camp Randall Stadium, where 28 fans were ejected, 16 arrested, and several others treated for medical emergencies during the Wisconsin Badgers’ crushing 37–0 loss to Iowa on Saturday.
Fans Ejected, Arrests Made as Tensions Boil Over
According to the UW–Madison Police Department, game-day incidents spiked sharply during Saturday’s matchup. Among the 28 ejections, officials confirmed 18 were University of Wisconsin students.
Police said an additional 18 citations were issued, while emergency responders handled 15 first aid calls and eight paramedic responses throughout the game.
“It was a difficult night both on and off the field,” one campus official told local media. “Between the score and the crowd issues, it was a challenging environment.”
Authorities have not yet detailed the causes of the ejections, but they typically involve alcohol-related offenses, disorderly conduct, or unauthorized field access.
37–0 Defeat Adds to Game-Day Frustrations
The Badgers suffered one of their worst home losses in recent years as the Iowa Hawkeyes shut them out in front of a packed crowd. Fans expressed visible frustration in the stands as Wisconsin’s offense struggled to gain traction all night.
Stadium security noted that many of the ejections occurred after halftime, when emotions ran high among students in the student section.
One witness described the crowd as “restless and rowdy” after Iowa scored its fourth touchdown late in the third quarter.
Increased Security Expected at Upcoming Games
Following the incident, UW–Madison officials said they will review game-day security protocols and possibly increase police presence for future home games.
Police also encouraged fans to “celebrate responsibly” and remember that alcohol misuse and disruptive behavior can result in arrest or permanent stadium bans.
“We want fans to enjoy the game, but safety comes first,” a UW Police spokesperson said.
