Lexington Police Searching for Driver After 59-Year-Old Bicyclist Killed in Late-Night Hit-and-Run
LEXINGTON, KENTUCKY — Police are investigating a deadly hit-and-run crash that left a Lexington bicyclist dead Saturday night and the driver still at large, authorities confirmed.
According to the Lexington Police Department, the crash occurred around 11 p.m. on October 25 near the intersection of Georgetown Street and Price Road.
Emergency responders arrived to find the bicyclist, later identified as 59-year-old Jose Luis Hernandez Sosa, unresponsive in the roadway. The Fayette County Coroner’s Office pronounced him dead at the scene around 11:45 p.m.
Police: Driver Fled After Fatal Collision
Investigators say the driver involved in the crash fled the scene before officers arrived. Police have not yet released a description of the vehicle but confirmed that the suspect remains at large as the investigation continues.
The coroner’s report states that an autopsy will be conducted to determine the exact manner of death.
“We are asking anyone who saw something or has surveillance footage from the area to contact us immediately,” a Lexington Police spokesperson said.
Authorities closed Georgetown Street for several hours overnight to process evidence and reconstruct the crash scene. The roadway has since been reopened to traffic.
