Quick Response Contained Mankato House Fire; Resident Safely Escaped Without Hospitalization

MANKATO, Minn. — A fast response from firefighters and the help of a passerby prevented tragedy on West Pleasant Street Friday evening when a house fire broke out, according to the City of Mankato.
Flames Quickly Contained To One Room
The Mankato Fire Department was dispatched to 420 West Pleasant Street around 5:54 p.m., where they found smoke billowing from the home. Crews were able to swiftly confine the flames to the room of origin, preventing the fire from spreading to other parts of the house.
Officials estimated damages at $35,000, and an investigation is underway to determine the cause of the blaze.
Resident Escaped With Help From Passerby
One individual was inside the home when the fire started. Authorities confirmed the resident was aided to safety by a passerby who noticed the emergency.
Paramedics with Mayo Clinic Ambulance Service evaluated the occupant at the scene. Fortunately, hospitalization was not required.
“Fire crews quickly extinguished the fire and contained it to the room where it appears to have started,” the City of Mankato stated in its public update.
