Two Madison Men Arrested in Georgia, Charged in Sun Prairie Shooting That Left One Injured
SUN PRAIRIE, WISCONSIN — Two Madison men have been arrested and charged in connection with a targeted shooting that occurred last month in Sun Prairie, police announced Tuesday.
According to the Sun Prairie Police Department (SPPD), 17-year-old Tradell Morrison and 20-year-old Jeremiah Smith were taken into custody by the Henry County Sheriff’s Office in Georgia on October 17. Both suspects were wanted on warrants from the Wisconsin Department of Corrections and were extradited back to Wisconsin on October 28.
Charges and Ongoing Investigation
Police said both Morrison and Smith now face multiple felony charges, including:
- Two counts of attempted first-degree intentional homicide
- Two counts of recklessly endangering safety
- One count of felon in possession of a firearm
The charges stem from a shooting incident on October 7, when multiple 911 callers reported hearing gunfire just before 12:50 a.m. near Sunfield Street and Sun Court. Investigators believe shots were fired between two vehicles, both of which fled the scene before officers arrived.
Shortly after the incident, a man suffering from a gunshot wound arrived at a local hospital and was later transferred for further treatment. Police said the victim has since been released and that the attack was not random, but a targeted dispute between individuals.
License Plate Reader Helped Identify Suspects
SPPD Chief Kevin Warych credited automatic license plate reader technology for helping detectives identify and locate the suspects quickly.
“Their diligent work, collaboration, and commitment led to the timely identification and apprehension of the suspects,” Warych said. “This outcome would not have been possible, or would have been delayed, without the use of License Plate Readers and our colleagues at the Henry County Sheriff’s Office.”
Authorities said the investigation remains active as prosecutors review the case for formal charges through the Dane County District Attorney’s Office.
