Woman Found Dead After Mobile Home Fire in Comstock, Barron County

COMSTOCK, WISCONSIN — A woman was found dead after a mobile home fire in western Wisconsin late last week, according to the Barron County Sheriff’s Department. Authorities are investigating the cause of the blaze, which broke out Thursday afternoon on Highway 63 in Comstock.

Emergency crews responded to the fire around 3:15 p.m. on October 30, after reports of heavy smoke coming from a residence at 1868 U.S. Highway 63.

Firefighters Discover Victim After Blaze Contained

Responding agencies — including the Cumberland Fire Department, Cumberland Ambulance, and the Wisconsin Department of Justice — worked to extinguish the fire before entering the structure.

Once the flames were under control, firefighters located the body of a deceased woman inside the home. She has been identified as Dawn Allen of Comstock, officials confirmed.

The Barron County Medical Examiner’s Office is assisting with the investigation to determine the official cause and origin of the fire.

Investigation Underway Into Cause

As of Monday, investigators have not released any evidence suggesting foul play, but say the scene remains under review. The Wisconsin Department of Justice Division of Criminal Investigation is also involved, helping determine whether electrical failure, heating systems, or other accidental causes contributed to the blaze.

Authorities have not disclosed how long Allen had lived in the mobile home or whether anyone else was inside at the time of the fire.

“Our thoughts are with the family of Ms. Allen as we continue to work through this investigation,” the Barron County Sheriff’s Office said in a brief statement.

Community Reacts to Fatal Fire

Residents in the small Barron County community said the tragedy has shaken the quiet neighborhood near U.S. 63, where emergency crews remained on scene for several hours Thursday evening.

The Barron County Sheriff’s Office is urging anyone with information related to the fire or who may have noticed suspicious activity in the area that afternoon to contact investigators.

Further updates will be provided as the cause of the Comstock fire is determined.
