Milwaukee Teen Remembered After Deadly Shooting Near Fond du Lac and Hoyt

MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN — A 19-year-old man was killed and two other teens were injured in a Saturday night shooting on Milwaukee’s north side, marking yet another tragic case of youth violence in the city.

Police said the shooting happened near Fond du Lac Avenue and Hoyt Place around 11:22 p.m. on November 1, leaving one person dead and two others hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. The victim has been identified by family as Jarvis Willis.

Family Mourns a Life Cut Short

Loved ones say Jarvis Willis had been trying to turn his life around when he was caught in the deadly shooting.

“He wanted to make a change for himself,” said Tara Rice, Willis’ aunt. “We’re victims too. When he dies, we die with him. We just lost our mom — he just lost his grandmother. We just want answers. We want to know what happened to him.”

Willis’ family gathered for a balloon release Sunday night outside a nearby building they say has been the site of repeated disturbances. Neighbors told FOX6 News they’ve made multiple complaints about fights and loud gatherings at the location.

Coach and Community Speak Out Against Violence

Willis’ former basketball coach, Dr. Reginald Holton, said he’s tired of seeing young lives lost to gunfire.

“You got kids shooting up parties, shooting up high school football games — it just has to stop,” Holton said. “We can’t let another Jarvis situation happen.”

Holton, who also teaches in Milwaukee, said he’s lost multiple students and athletes to gun violence in recent years, calling it a devastating pattern that’s tearing families apart.

Community Frustration Over Problem Spot

Residents who live near the scene said they’ve long raised concerns about the property where the shooting occurred. Timothy Scott, a neighbor and family friend, said the site has drawn trouble for months.

“This building is the issue,” Scott said. “This could’ve been prevented. Teenagers are dying in our community because they’re out here at this time of night.”

Police say no arrests have been made, and investigators are still working to identify who fired the shots and what led to the confrontation.

Police Seek Public’s Help

Milwaukee police are urging anyone with information about the shooting to call (414) 935-7360 or remain anonymous through Crime Stoppers at (414) 224-TIPS or the P3 Tips app.

For now, Jarvis Willis’ family is left mourning a young man they say had dreams of doing better — dreams now silenced by another night of violence in the city.
