Aurora Crash: Mother Killed, Infant Seriously Injured in Collision With RTD Bus

AURORA, COLORADO – A tragic crash in Aurora on Thursday evening left a mother dead and her infant child seriously injured after their SUV collided head-on with a Regional Transportation District (RTD) bus, police confirmed.
Details of the Crash
The collision occurred at approximately 5:18 p.m. near East 30th Avenue and East Parklane Drive. According to the Aurora Police Department, the woman and her one-year-old child were ejected from their Mercedes SUV during the crash. Neither was restrained at the time, and both were rushed to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.
By 7:30 p.m., police confirmed the woman had died. The infant, though stabilized, remains in critical condition.
Circumstances Leading Up to the Collision
Investigators say the mother and child had just left the scene of a family dispute that police were responding to. Authorities believe the woman was driving at a high rate of speed when she lost control and struck the RTD bus head-on.
Police are also investigating possible intoxication as a contributing factor in the crash.
Injuries on the Bus
Three people on the RTD bus — including the driver — were transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Four other passengers were evaluated but did not require hospitalization.
Road closures were put in place on East 30th Avenue between Scranton Street and Ursula Street while investigators worked the scene.
