RICHMOND, KENTUCKY — A college football player from Eastern Kentucky University and his father are facing criminal charges after allegedly attacking a coach in the stadium parking lot following the team’s Saturday night loss, authorities confirmed.

According to Madison County Detention Center records, Charles H. Ingram V, a defensive back for EKU, and his father, Charles Ingram, were both arrested and charged with fourth-degree assault (minor injury), second-degree disorderly conduct, and first-degree criminal mischief.

Altercation Erupted After Game, Police Break It Up

The incident occurred after the Colonels’ game on Saturday night in Richmond, where tensions reportedly flared in the stadium parking lot.

According to a university statement, EKU assistant coach Rashad Watson was assaulted by Ingram and his father following the game. Witnesses said the altercation escalated quickly before police intervened and broke up the fight.

“Following Saturday night’s football game, Rashad Watson, a member of the EKU football coaching staff, was assaulted by an EKU student-athlete and one of their family members in the stadium parking lot,” the university said in a statement.

“The police broke up the altercation, and after the initial on-site investigation, Watson was released. The two other individuals were placed under arrest. The student-athlete is suspended from the football team. This is an ongoing investigation.”

University Condemns Violence, Launches Review

Officials at Eastern Kentucky University said they are cooperating fully with law enforcement and reviewing the events leading up to the confrontation.

An EKU spokesperson told LEX 18 that the university has zero tolerance for violence, adding that the student’s suspension will remain in effect until further notice.

The father and son are expected to appear in Madison County District Court later this week.

The Richmond Police Department is continuing its investigation into the incident, and further disciplinary action from EKU remains possible depending on the outcome of the case.
