Kentucky Man Arrested After Shooting Outside Louisville Liquor Store During Argument, Police Say
LOUISVILLE, KENTUCKY — A 29-year-old man has been arrested after allegedly shooting another man outside a liquor store in the Valley Station neighborhood Saturday night, according to the Louisville Metro Police Department.
The shooting took place outside Valley Liquors, located in the 5400 block of Valley Station Road, following what police described as a heated verbal confrontation between the suspect and the victim.
Argument Escalated After Cigarette Thrown at Vehicle
Court records state that surveillance footage captured Matthew Tarrance arguing with another man outside the store. The altercation escalated when the victim threw a cigarette butt onto Tarrance’s car, prompting him to get out and continue the confrontation.
Police say Tarrance then pulled out a handgun and shot the man twice in the stomach before fleeing the scene.
“The victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries,” police said, adding that the man was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Suspect Claimed Self-Defense After Fleeing Scene
After leaving the liquor store, Tarrance allegedly called police to report the shooting, telling dispatchers that he acted in self-defense.
Responding officers later located and arrested Tarrance, who was charged with assault in connection with the incident.
Authorities have not yet released the victim’s name, and the investigation remains ongoing to determine whether the shooting was justified or provoked.
Community Safety Concerns in Valley Station
The incident adds to a string of recent violent altercations in southwest Louisville, where police have stepped up patrol presence in retail areas and parking lots.
Officials are urging residents to avoid confrontations and to contact police if they witness escalating disputes in public spaces.
