Wisconsin Man Accused of Telling Wife ‘Look at Me When I Shoot You’ Before Firing Amid Divorce Dispute

GRAFTON, WISCONSIN — A former Wisconsin firefighter is behind bars after allegedly shooting his wife multiple times during a heated argument that police say unfolded shortly after she met with a divorce lawyer.

53-year-old Guy Paider is charged with attempted first-degree intentional homicide and first-degree recklessly endangering safety, according to the Ozaukee County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities say Paider attacked his wife inside their home on Lake Shores Road in Grafton Friday afternoon — moments before police arrived at the scene.

‘Look at Me, So You Can See Me When I Shoot You’

According to a criminal complaint obtained by WISN, Paider’s wife told investigators she had met with her attorney earlier that day to discuss her divorce. When she returned home, Paider confronted her repeatedly about what she wanted in the divorce settlement.

She told him she didn’t want to discuss it in front of their child and sent the child to another room. That’s when Paider allegedly snapped.

“Call 911,” she screamed as Paider threw her onto the bedroom floor, she later told investigators. Moments later, he allegedly opened a drawer “where his underwear is,” pulled out a handgun, and said:
“Look at me, look at me, so you can see me when I shoot you.”

Deputies Arrive to Chaos

At 3:50 p.m., Ozaukee County deputies and Grafton Police officers responded to the 911 call. As officers entered the home, they reportedly heard a woman screaming for help — followed by multiple gunshots.

Officers found Paider’s wife suffering from severe gunshot wounds. She was airlifted to a hospital in Milwaukee and later listed in stable condition.

Paider was taken into custody without further incident and booked into the Ozaukee County Jail. No officers were injured during the confrontation.

A Former Firefighter Turned Suspect

Authorities confirmed that Paider is a former firefighter for the City of West Allis, a suburb west of Milwaukee. Officials have not released details on how long he served or when he left the department.

The shooting has rattled the quiet Grafton neighborhood, with local residents calling it “unthinkable” for such violence to erupt in their community.
